Stitching Questions

Filed under: Quizzes — xstitcherzo @ 8:49 am

Saw this on others, and give it a go.

1. How old were you when you started Cross Stitching?
About 13 (for home-econ class after that I hated it! I had to complete a project and this is the safest eventhough I find the design very ugly.) And start again at 28 while Adam was swimming around in my tummy. I need something to teach him about patience.

2. Who taught you to cross stitch?
No-one. I read the instructions that came with the kit but alot of knots and criss-crossing the 1st time I tried.

3. What inspired you to begin Cross Stitching?
It was my friend’s mother. She would do huge project of Precious Moments.

4. What has been your most difficult Cross Stitch Piece?
There is no difficult piece as I have yet to start on any large project. All the while it have been small projects. So it be rather quick to finish. but Ed the Hedgehog is only hold at the moment as I don’t like tweeding.

5. Do you have friends that stitch?
Yes, my male colleague, I taught him and he stitch when he feels like it. No pressure. His back is neat on his 1st attempt. And my online friends. I don’t care if other people consider me an old woman, and I stitch them openly in the public trains and buses and viewed by so many people. Show off!

6. What is your Favorite stitched Piece?
Every piece that I have done so far is my favourite. Sometimes it is difficult to give them away.

7. What is your favorite Fabric?
I’m happy with aida but I think I would try evenweave again. As I had a bad start the last time I did on evenweave as kept counting the holes wrongly as I don’t know it was an evenweave….lol…silly me

8. What is your favorite Fiber?
DMC and Anchor. But I find if I stitch using DMC, at the end of the piece, the design have that added sheen to it unlike Anchor. Looks like I be switching to DMC. I don’t mind using Anchor though if the kit comes with it or else I change the colours to DMC if I’m using the chart.

9.What is your favorite Needle?
Size 26 and 28 tapestry needle.

10. Do you prefer Black & White or Colored Charts?
Coloured charts as I would know where the huge block of colours would be. And since I don’t want to damaged the originals, I would re-copy them huge.

11. How many Works In Progress do you have at this time?
Presently I have only 1 and that would be the MSRR.

12. How many UFO’s do you have at this time?
Ed the hedgehog, Popcorn bear, Need to re-do Angelsan design as I’m dissatisfied with the outcome. A cat for someone. Peace sampler that I design. Birth Sampler for my colleague. 4 thank you cards. 2 birthday cards. I considered them UFO’s as they are still pending to be complete.

13. How many cross Stitch charts/kits/mags do you own?
I have 3 kits, over thousand charts, over 30 mags, 7 books.

14. How much fabric do you have in stock at this time?
Lots of 35 x 50, bits and pieces for cards, 1.5m of white aida. I had bought 2 m the last time and the lady cutting it looks as though I am mad. I think I am come to think of it. But it was too good to miss it and paid about 17 pound for Zweigart.

15. Where is your favorite place to stitch?
In the office.

16. What is your favorite time of day to stitch?
I can stitch at any time but find it easiest during the day when there is the most light.

17. How many pieces have you stitched in your lifetime?
A rough guess would be 10.

18. Do you give your stitched pieces away?
Rarely to others as most people don’t appreciate the time and effort that has gone into them. I prefer giving to my sis as she is more appreciative.

19. How many different fibers do you have in stock at this time?
1 Kreinik gold reel. 2 madeira metallic (freebies form CrossStitcher), 28 Anchors and 66 DMC

20. How many pairs of scissors do you own?
One. But they are for sewing only. I use a thread snip.

21. Do you use stitching enhancers (lights, scroll frames…etc)?
I used a plastic hoop. I have a roller frame which I hardly used now as too big to manage just waiting for my stand to be finish.

22. How many pieces that have been stitched but not yet framed or finished off in some other way do you have at this time?
5. Still sleeping in the ziploc bag.

23. Do you have a craft/stitching room?
No – but I’m going to covert a portion of my bedroom into it. Soon I can snuggle up and stitch away.

24. Why do you stitch?
It teaches me patience and anxiety. I love seeing others stitching and it gives me the challenge to do something. And its a break from beading and sewing.

25. What is your most memorable time related to cross stitching.
Seeing the smiles on my colleagues faces and they watched with envy. They are very interested in what I do.

Over-due Tagged

Filed under: Quizzes — xstitcherzo @ 6:40 pm

I’ve been tagged by Angelsan ! Isn’t this great way to know?
I have to choose 5 and then complete the sentence, then I get to tag 3 people:

If I could be a scientist . . .
If I could be a farmer . . .
If I could be a musician . . .
If I could be a doctor . . .
If I could be a painter . . .
If I could be a gardener . . .
If I could be a missionary . . .
If I could be a chef . . .
If I could be an architect . . .
If I could be a linguist . . .
If I could be a psychologist . . .
If I could be a librarian . . .
If I could be an athlete . . .
If I could be a lawyer . . .
If I could be an inn-keeper . . .
If I could be a professor . . .
If I could be a writer . . .
If I could be a llama-rider . . .
If I could be a bonnie pirate . . .
If I could be an astronaut . . .
If I could be a world famous blogger . . .
If I could be a justice on any one court in the world . . .
If I could be married to any current famous political figure . . .

Can’t do the architect thingy as I gave up furthering my studies…just 2 years to completion.

If I could be a doctor . . .I’ll be an Animal doctor (Vet) and could play, cure, touch, cuddle all the cats, hamsters, monkeys. Study all the different species.

If I could be a painter . . .I would paint all the wonderful things that I experience and see in my head that can’t be expressed in words. My version of Harry Potter is totally different. Even Hermione looks much prettier. Weasley would not look so dumb. Kahlan and Richard Rahl, the handsome couple from Terry Goodkind.

If I could be a linguist . . .I could understand all the other main languages and don’t have to use an online translation when they have not translated correctly. At the present moment, I only know 4 languages but it’s a bit of here and there so I can manage to scrap by.

If I could be a librarian . . .(Head of librarian)I would stocked up more on cross-stitch, silk ribbon-embroidery, cloth dolls, fantasy, salt dough, dollhouses, inline-skating, newborn, learn foreign language, malay horror books. And I spend time reading and make sure the library is really, really quiet.

If I could be a writer . . .I would write the silliest yet true version on teenage stories of Singapore during the 80’s. A nostalgic read.

Now it’s Zia, Elaine and Maggie’s turn to be tagged…..

"Stitching Blogger’s Question" 3 in 1

Filed under: SBQ — xstitcherzo @ 3:47 pm

It’s time I answer all my SBQ. I’ve delayed it for 3 solid weeks…that is really a long time.
1)Given the option, would you rather buy a chart and get the material and floss together yourself, or buy a pre-packed kit?

Hmmm….I would prefer the chart as for the materials you can get it cheaply in Singapore and Malaysia. And buying a kit would burn a hole in my pocket for sure as most of them are imported. Over the months, I’ve accumulated alot of charts from magazines, online freebies and from friends. And I’ve bought my own threads years ago. I have the tendency to change the colours or match to the closest so that I don’t waste them and can just stock up what I’ve run out.
But if the kit come with special threads, fabric, beads, charms or anything that is unique. I wouldn’t mind purchasing them. Coz to gather all those would probably cost more and if I do buy them separately, it would be left unused in the end.

2)How many strands of floss do you prefer to stitch with? Why?

I prefer to work using 2 strands as I always used the loop method to give a neater backs.

3)How do you deal a “stitching slump?”

There is time, when my mind refuse to stitch anymore, so what I normally did is went thru all the other stitchers blogger and read thru what they are stitching, completed and any of their on-going projects. It gives me inspiration to start again.
If that does not work. I love reading fantasy book and I picked up where I stopped. Just waiting for Chainfire by Terry Goodkind to hit the library. Wonder where is the rest of David Eddings books in the library. And I do mini projects. Mini projects would take me a week to finish as I don’t have much stitching time. So it pushes my projects even further back. I don’t like confetti stitch and tweeding with browns. (Ed the Hedgehog from CC).
I make bracelets, rings, necklace from beads, using either plastic or swarovski crystals.

My sister warns me about if you speak against Singapore and you be charge in court. So much for freedom of speech and a democratic country on the national pledge. I would never speak against my “beloved” Singapore. Why would I do something that would get me into trouble. I’m just saying a shop in Singapore that charge exorbitant prices to the locals (construction company) that’s all. Spotlight is good LNS that sells wonderful crafts, bits and pieces. I bought most of my stuff there. They stock up mainly on quilting, scrapbooking, tatting, knitting, sewing, painting, stenciling, pergamo but minimum on cross-stitching stitchables which I would love if they do.
Anyway, this would be my last post till I return that would be in 1 week time or more as I need time off to clear my blog, re-arrange my work life and personal life.
Fresh problems just cropped up at home that requires my immediate attention and action.
Have fun and see you all back again.

Mess Up My Own Blogsite

Filed under: Rants — xstitcherzo @ 3:40 pm

Boss is having a panic attack since it’s been raining for the past few days in Singapore. Water level keep rising and construction work is progressing at a snail’s pace but the most important of all, its the Monitoring Team surveyed readings.
Well how do you proposed, we work when it is raining and the inclinometer instruments acting haywire even after send for calibration and repair.
For those in construction site, don’t buy earth movement detection equipments from the only company in Singapore…really poor service and bad workmanship. Not only they charge such a high price just to change the strap or anything.
Send in once to have the strap change as the buckle had worn off. Not only they did not change the strap but cut it shorter and slot in a $3 buckle in and charge $60. Absolutely ridiculous! I bought the strap from Spotlight at $1.63 per metre.
And when you send in for calibration, they don’t get it clean and make it nice.
Boss still in panic attack and I’ve messed up my blogsite. I was doing some house-keeping and locating them into proper places. Would tidy up later, so sorry folks. have to bear with my messy site for a moment.
Very busy at work as big Japanese guy coming to Korean company (that’s where I work) for inspection on monitoring data thus why the panic attack. Got to run.

"Stitching Blogger’s Question"

Filed under: SBQ — xstitcherzo @ 11:35 am

I have answered this Qs but somehow the stupid blog (myblogsite) did not record them or it went crazy on me. Let’s do it one more time.
Do you finish all your finished pieces? (pillow, frame, etc,) If so, how do you finish the pieces? If not what do you do with them?

Once my MSRR returns (that would be next year), it would be the 1st cross-stitch to be frame. I had done 4 as hp pouch, 1 in mirror, 1 in bag tag, 1 as mini pillow, 4 as cards. Next to try would be tees, mini bags, make-up pouch, hand mirror (I always love them), cushion, shawl. I can think of so many ways to finish it.

What is your opinion of Internet “freebies?”

You can never have enough of them. I have over 1000 just waiting for me to finish them and always looking for more, who knows that might be the perfect one for someone special. I used some of the freebie alphabets to personalise my sampler. And the small and quick design are faster way to finish anything, be it on the towel or card.

Q&E May Freebie – Tom Mouse Kit

Filed under: Stitching Update — xstitcherzo @ 3:01 pm

I’ve meant to post the finish pic but couldn’t figure out how and finally got round to doing it today. I finish it with the paper frame that came with it.

Image hosted by This is the back view. I got inspired from Angelsan.

Image hosted by Front view of course. While doing it, I swore I would never do any Tom Mouse ever again. with 3 shades for blue, red and grey, all over the place drives me little off the edge .But once I complete it, feel like I don’t mind doing another one. Looking forward to doing another freebie of WOCS issue 73.

American Idol 4 – Updates

Filed under: TV Shows — xstitcherzo @ 9:35 am

The theme…they have 2 themes…the 1st one is from the oldies I supposed as you have Elvis Presley, George Benson and other weird songs. No offence intended except for Bo Bice choice of song, the rest I don’t think I would listen to or heard before. And Elvis is dead for those who still in denial…wacko.
2nd theme is not so bad…this week billboards…so you have plenty to choose from.
So let’s start with the 1st round, Anthony Fedorov, POISON IVY? He reminded me of what ah-bengs and ah-lians would be singing at a karaoke bar. Really terrible song choice and terrible dressing, you are not at small time talentime competition but this is seen by millions and all across the world.
Next we have the fat guy. Not so bad even if he try to change a few notes to get under Simon skin(won’t vote for him and kick him out…I don’t want an attitude Idol. You want attitude…I have plenty attitude Banglas in the office).
So what is wrong with Vonzell tonight?..Cheeky song but not cheeky enough, she set me on my nerves when she shriek…yucks.
Bo Bice, what can I say good song choice and really cool oldies rocker. He pick the song that suit his voice, the gruffness and good performance.
Carrie really good tonight even if I don’t like the song choice. Nice outfit! You go Girl.
2nd theme
Anthony really pull thru this time, it sounded so much better in ballads and really perform well. And better dressing this time. I don’t think the red suits him. It does not goes well with his hairdo and hair colour.
Fat guy nice song choice but sounded flat as though he just slipped and landed on his face.
Vonzell, terrible dress looks 20yrs older unless she is going for the looks. Like the song that she choose and good vocals but good impersonator. Nothing special about her.
Bo Bice, one more time really outdone everyone even Carrie this time. Good song, good performance and Simon is really right about him making others looks like amateur. I LOVE his dressing…all details right down to his shoes.
Carrie, girl you can’t wear round skirt..not flattering on you, no sparklies either…looks like Getai singer. Don’t like the song choice but pull thru the last end.
Its everybody game now. If American (since majority voter from there) is still tone deaf like last week, we might see the fat guy staying and Vonzell going…or Anthony going this time…who knows maybe Carrie.
As for me, I’m hoping I’m getting an American Rocker Idol this year
